About EscapeGaming.io

EscapeGaming.io is a curated guide to escape-room and puzzle games on PC and VR. It collects the best "escape the room" style games in one place, so you can find your next puzzle to solve by play type (singleplayer, co-op, multiplayer, VR) or by genre (puzzle, horror, mystery and more).

Who runs this site

Hi, I'm Matthijs Langendijk. EscapeGaming.io is my personal project: I build and maintain the site and curate the games on it myself.

By day I'm Lead Media Technology at Hypersolid, working on video streaming products. I started out as a JavaScript developer and have since worked as a QA engineer, Smart TV lead, product owner and solutions architect. You can find more about me on iamatthijs.nl and LinkedIn.

How games are selected

I focus on games where escaping, puzzle-solving and exploration are the core of the experience. I keep track of new releases on Steam (games tagged as escape rooms, new titles from studios already on the site, and well-reviewed mystery and deduction games) and only add the ones that fit that focus.

How games are reviewed

Every game with enough player feedback gets a verdict: a short review with a score, difficulty, player count, playtime, and pros and cons. Verdicts are based on the game's Steam store page and on what players report in their Steam reviews, so they summarise how a game is received rather than claim I played every title.

The score starts from the game's Steam review rating and is adjusted for patterns in what players praise or complain about. Games that are not out yet, or that have fewer than five reviews, don't get a verdict until there is enough to go on.

What EscapeGaming.io adds

Steam lists thousands of games and leaves the sorting to you. This site exists to do that work for escape-room and puzzle fans:

  • A verdict for every game with a score, a short review, and pros and cons, so you know whether it's worth your evening before you buy.
  • Quick facts at a glance: difficulty, how many players, and how long it takes to finish, which store pages rarely state clearly.
  • A focused selection: only games where puzzles and escaping are the point, without the asset flips and loosely related titles.
  • Browse by how you play: singleplayer, co-op, multiplayer, VR or free, and by genre such as horror, mystery or point & click.
  • Hand-picked lists: featured games, a top 10, new releases and complete series, kept up to date as new games come out.
  • Related games and series on every game page, so one good puzzle game leads you to the next.

Game descriptions

Game descriptions, release dates and other store information are quoted from the game's official page on Steam. All game titles, images and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
