Creepy Tale 3: Ingrid Penance is the third hand-drawn puzzle adventure in the series, based on the fairy tale of the girl who stepped on a loaf. Spoiled Ingrid treads on bread to keep her shoes clean, falls into the underworld, and must solve her way through scenes full of strange creatures. Choices shape her redemption and lead to multiple endings. It suits solo players who like dark cartoon adventures.
Steam reviews are very positive (about 92% of 777). Players call it the most creative and the longest entry so far, with more detailed locations, smooth animation and a more emotional story. Several also say it is the hardest: the puzzles are intricate and some keep you thinking a while.
The flip side is strange solutions. Even fans admit some puzzles feel random, and one critic called the morality system blunt. Expect around seven to nine hours for one ending. At its low price it is easy to recommend to fans of the series and of point and click puzzles who accept some adventure-game moon logic.
Pros
- Underworld fairy tale with detailed hand-drawn scenes
- Choices feed into multiple endings
- Longest and most varied entry in the series
Cons
- Several puzzles have odd, moon-logic solutions
- Blunt morality system
- Harder than the earlier games, which can frustrate
