Our verdict

7/10

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Players: 1
  • Playtime: 3–5 h

Darkstone Bay is a small first-person escape-room adventure set on an uncharted island, where you hunt for a Spanish galleon that vanished in 1721. You move from beaches to caves, old mines and jungle, decoding symbols and finding hidden objects to open each new area. It suits solo players who want a relaxed, low-cost escape game with a treasure-hunt theme.

With only seven Steam reviews, all of the written ones positive, the evidence is thin. Those players like the calm music and visuals and call the puzzles fair: the game gives you what you need, though clues are sometimes tucked away and one reviewer lost time on the very first door. Most say the puzzles are not hard for genre regulars, and one advises not to overthink them.

One reviewer noted a few puzzles that misbehave and need to be repeated. Controller support is partial, so Steam Deck players map buttons themselves. It is short and cheap; for fans of island exploration escape games it is worth the small price, but do not expect a big challenge.

Pros

  • Treasure hunt for a lost 1721 galleon across beaches, caves and mines
  • Fair puzzles with clues hidden in the environment
  • Calm soundtrack and pleasant island scenery

Cons

  • Only seven reviews so far
  • Some puzzle inputs need repeating before they register
  • Easy for experienced escape room players

A shipwreck has been hidden on this island for 300 years. Will you be the one to find it?

Story

In the spring of 1721, the Spanish galleon El Diablo Dormido - The Sleeping Devil, vanished from all imperial records without explanation. No wreckage was ever found. No survivors ever surfaced.
