Samorost 3 is a hand-drawn point and click adventure from Amanita Design, the makers of Machinarium. A small space gnome finds a magical flute and travels between strange little planets, using the flute to listen to creatures and objects and solving playful scene puzzles along the way. There is no dialogue and no violence. It suits relaxed solo players and families, and several reviewers play it with their kids or grandkids.
Steam reviews are very positive (1,527 of 1,624). Players love the surreal art, the music and sound, and the gentle, peaceful mood; some call it the studio's best. The puzzles are mostly about exploring each scene and noticing how things react, and one reviewer says calling it a puzzle game is a stretch.
That is the main caveat: it is more a wonder-filled exploration than a brain-teaser, and some balk at the price for around five hours. Fans of Amanita's other games should buy it without hesitation; puzzle-focused players may prefer it on sale.
Pros
- Surreal hand-drawn planets with outstanding music and sound
- Magic flute lets you listen to and influence creatures
- Gentle, non-violent and family friendly
Cons
- Puzzles are light, more exploration than challenge
- Price feels high for around five hours
