Escape From Crimson Manor: Trapped Together is a two-player online co-op spin-off of The Inheritance of Crimson Manor. You and a partner wake up in opposite wings of a Victorian manor, cannot see each other's screen, and solve linked mechanical puzzles by talking, passing keys and tools through a dumbwaiter between floors. There is no death and no chase, so it suits pairs who like We Were Here style communication puzzles at a calm pace.
Steam reviews are mostly positive (about 72% of 98). Couples and friends describe it as a good date-night puzzler that gets hard in places, and several say the developer patched early bugs quickly. Others found the puzzles generic, some solutions unclear even after solving them, and the visuals blurry enough to make written clues hard to read.
The biggest recurring complaint is missable items: one pair had to replay act one because a key item never reached the second player. Ultrawide screens and missing key bindings also come up. If you have a regular co-op puzzle partner and have finished the We Were Here games, it is a decent pick, ideally on sale.
Pros
- Split-wing manor where only voice links the two players
- Dumbwaiter item swaps make both players needed for each puzzle
- No death or chases, so you can think at your own pace
Cons
- Missable key items can force a replay of an earlier act
- Blurry textures make some written clues hard to read
- Players call several puzzles generic or unclear
