EscapeVR: Trapped Above the Clouds is a VR-only, room-scale escape game and the second entry in the EscapeVR series. You wake up in a wardrobe at the top of a half-built skyscraper and work through three large areas of a penthouse, with hundreds of objects to handle and teleport movement. It suits solo headset owners who enjoy real-life escape rooms, and it also works passed around among friends watching.
Most players liked it, and many say it is longer and harder than the first game, The Basement. Reviewers praise puzzles that feel logical, a lock-pick tool and slide-puzzle sequence, and a built-in hint system that nudges rather than spoils. Typical runs took one and a half to three and a half hours.
The complaints are consistent: a few puzzles feel obtuse, controls can be fiddly, objects on the floor mean a lot of crouching, and there are no control instructions for some headsets. One reviewer disliked the realistic room where only a few of many objects matter. It is a solid pick for VR escape fans, ideally on sale given the short length; skip it if you want abstract puzzle design or smooth locomotion.
Pros
- Three large penthouse areas with 250+ interactive objects
- Hint system points the way without giving answers
- Longer and tougher than the first EscapeVR game
Cons
- A handful of puzzles feel obtuse or rely on guessing
- Fiddly controls and lots of crouching for floor items
- Short for the full price
About
EscapeVR: Trapped Above the Clouds is an 'Escape The Room' genre game which was inspired by real-life escape games and written from the ground up as a room-scale virtual reality experience. 'Trapped Above the Clouds' is the second installment of the EscapeVR series. It is longer, larger, and more challenging than the first game, EscapeVR: The Basement.
You find yourself trapped above the clouds - in a wardrobe of a mile high building which is still partly under construction. Can you escape? Not everything seems to be working as expected. You might just have to do some construction work yourself, or even nick some equipment from the canceled base jump event on the roof...
Explore the environment, solve puzzles, dare to do some crazy stuff, investigate clues, and find your way through a total of 3 large areas to -hopefully- escape the penthouse of this VR escape room game.
