Our verdict

7/10

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Players: 1
  • Playtime: 2–4 h

Adam's Forgotten Secrets is a first-person psychological horror game from a small studio, built as a tribute to a late friend of the developer. You play Adam, a man with no memories, wandering between a real town and a surreal nightmare version of his own mind. It suits solo players who want a personal, story-first horror walk with a 1990s flavour rather than a pure escape-room puzzle chain.

On Steam it holds a Positive rating from a small base of around 21 reviews, nearly all of them recommending it. Players tag it most strongly as interactive fiction, psychological horror and visual novel, which matches the store pitch: you collect diary pages, solve simple retro-themed puzzles and, after a large update, face enemies that stand for Adam's fears. The one written review we found is negative, calling the loop of running, searching and reading long texts boring.

That split is the main caveat. If you want a reflective, emotional horror story and do not mind lots of reading and light puzzling, it is worth a look, ideally on sale. If you came for tough logic puzzles or a tight escape-room design, skip it.

Pros

  • Personal story built as a tribute to a real friend of the developer
  • Surreal shifts between Adam's town and a nightmare memory world
  • Diary pages and 15 hidden collectibles reward exploring

Cons

  • Heavy on reading; one reviewer found the search-and-read loop boring
  • Puzzles are simple, so escape-room fans may want more challenge
  • Small review base makes reception hard to judge

⚠️ This game is a tribute: It’s based on true events — a heartbreaking story of a dear friend who is no longer with us.

☠️ Attention Players ☠️

  • A huge update has just been released! We've added new areas, enemies, weapons, a reworked interface, and improved performance across the board. Thank you so much for your patience and support during this time!!

The Midnight Town Stories: Adam’s Forgotten Secrets is the evolution of The Midnight Town Stories: Adam’s Diary — a game that began as a simple narrative experience and has grown into a dark and challenging journey filled with mystery, horror, and exploration.

In this game, you take control of Adam, a guy lost between the real world and a surreal dimension, with no memories of his past. As you explore the darkest corners of Adam’s mind and memories, you’ll face enemies that represent his deepest fears and traumas:

You’ll need to find the diary pages that reveal fragments of his life:

You’ll have to solve simple yet nostalgic puzzles that will take you back to the 90s:

The Grande Finale Update also introduces 15 hidden collectibles scattered across the dark, twisted spaces of Adam’s lost memories — will you find them all?

Will you be able to uncover all of Adam’s forgotten secrets?

Get ready for a unique experience, where the line between reality and nightmare blurs, and where the true enemy may be the darkness hidden within.

    ------------

This game was developed through pure dedication and determination. It was created by someone who started with absolutely zero knowledge of programming—just a dream, a lot of perseverance, and an unshakable will to make it happen.

The Midnight Town Stories: Adam’s Forgotten Secrets is not just a game; it’s the result of years of self-teaching, late nights, countless failures, and small victories. It’s proof that with passion and persistence, even the impossible can become reality.

This game was built from scratch, during a long and difficult journey—facing health battles, personal challenges, and the overwhelming learning curve of game development. But through it all, we kept going, because our biggest dream is to make games for a living—to tell stories that matter, to touch hearts, and to create worlds that players can lose themselves in.

The Midnight Town Stories: Adam’s Forgotten Secrets is our first game at Dark Ocean Games. While it’s far from perfect, it carries all our love, effort, and hope for the future. This is just the beginning—we’ll continue improving this game while working hard on new projects, always learning, growing, and pushing forward.

Thank you so much for playing. Thank you for believing in us.

Stay strong, keep going, and remember—every story matters.
