Our verdict

7/10

  • Difficulty: Hard
  • Players: 1
  • Playtime: 4–7 h

Die O'Clock is a solo escape room from Darkest Room set inside a giant, gloomy clock. Your goal is to recover twelve keys hidden across its rooms, and a twelve-minute timer hangs over every step. It suits experienced escape room fans who like dense logic puzzles and a dark, steampunk-noir mood with light horror.

The player base is tiny, with 5 of 7 reviews positive. Fans describe challenging, varied puzzles that sent them to pen and paper, and praise the heavy atmosphere and ticking sound design. The timer is the defining mechanic: one detailed review explains that it only runs while you move, and every key placed in the clock resets it and acts as a save point. Those who understood this found it added tension rather than frustration, and one player mentions built-in hints.

Both negative reviews quit within half an hour over the death mechanic, which sends you back to your last checkpoint and forces you to redo puzzles to recollect clues. If timed failure sounds stressful, skip it. If you like hard puzzles and can bank progress often, it offers four to seven hours of solid solving for a modest price.

Pros

  • Twelve-key structure with a clock that doubles as a checkpoint system
  • Challenging, varied logic puzzles that reward note-taking
  • Dense steampunk-noir atmosphere and ticking sound design

Cons

  • Timed death mechanic frustrates some players enough to quit early
  • Running out of time means redoing puzzles to regain clues
  • Very few reviews to judge by
