Our verdict

8/10

  • Difficulty: Medium
  • Players: 1
  • Playtime: 4–6 h

Egression is a VR-only escape room game from Hyperquad Studio set inside a fictional luxury escape-room company. You train in the lobby, then tackle two full rooms: the Game Room and the tougher Deep Sea Lab. It suits VR owners who want hands-on, physical puzzles without horror or combat.

The small player base is very happy with it: about 110 of 116 Steam reviews are positive. Reviewers single out the lobby itself, which hides meta puzzles that tie the two rooms together, and describe the room puzzles as fair and solvable on your own. One player notes there are no in-game hints, so the meta layer can leave you hunting the forums for nudges.

The main complaint is the object-grabbing system, which feels less polished than in comparable VR titles, and the game has not seen updates in a long time. The store promises four to six hours, which lines up with player reports. If you own a headset and liked The Room VR or I Expect You To Die, this is an easy recommendation at full price; flat-screen players cannot run it at all.

Pros

  • Two complete rooms plus meta puzzles hidden in the lobby
  • Physical, hands-on puzzles built around VR interaction
  • Pure puzzle focus with no horror or timers

Cons

  • Remote-grab system is clumsier than in rival VR games
  • No hint system, so meta puzzles can stall progress
  • VR headset required
