Extreme Escape is a VR-only escape scenario set in the capsule of an experimental high-altitude balloon that has lost power and is falling. Using the tools on board, a tablet of emergency procedures and a radio, you fix one failing system after another, including climbing outside the capsule above the clouds. It suits VR owners after a short, tense set piece rather than a puzzle marathon.
Players single out the vertigo of clambering around the balloon mid-storm and the sense of pressure as problems pile up. The tasks are mostly practical, such as using the right tool on the right fault, and several reviewers say there is little real puzzling. A harder expert mode adds some replay value, though it plays out much like story mode.
The big caveats: there is only one scenario, most finish in 15 to 45 minutes, and the game has sat in Early Access without updates since 2020, so more levels are unlikely. Players also report janky grabbing, items disappearing for good, ladder glitches and trouble reaching things if you are short. Worth a few dollars on sale as a showcase for VR newcomers; skip it if you want depth or a finished game.
Pros
- Climbing outside a falling balloon is a strong vertigo moment
- Escalating system failures keep the pressure on
- Expert mode offers a second, harder run
Cons
- Single short scenario, often finished in under 30 minutes
- Abandoned in Early Access with no updates since 2020
- Janky grabbing, ladder glitches and items that vanish
About
Have you ever wondered how it would feel to travel in a hot air balloon and fly above clouds? Have you ever wanted to face your fear of heights? Perhaps you wanted to become a pilot and test your critical thinking skills. Looking for a breathtaking experience? Try our game Extreme Escape.
You are the pilot of an experimental balloon that has suffered a serious accident. You’ve just lost power and your life support system is damaged. The balloon is leaking and you’re falling down really fast. Get out of this situation by repairing all devices and regaining control over the balloon.
The capsule contains plenty of tools and equipment necessarily to fix the air ship and land safely. The onboard computer shows emergency procedure codes that you can follow using your tablet. Additional help becomes available once the radio is reset. It is a room-scale experience. In a smaller space you can use a teleport or just pull yourself in the capsule using your hands.
