Gordian Rooms 1 is a point-and-click escape game set in a Victorian mansion left to you by an eccentric uncle, who demands you solve his final puzzle to claim the inheritance. You work through four rooms, starting in the basement, using a mouse-only interface. It suits solo players who miss the old browser escape games and like a methodical, unhurried pace.
Players praise the number and variety of puzzles, the music and the room design, and many call it a fair challenge for a small studio's first game. A tiered hint system lets you nudge yourself forward without seeing the full answer, though a few found the hints too general. The recurring complaints are pixel hunting for small items and clunky controls, where clicking to interact sometimes drags the camera instead.
Other gripes: some puzzles cannot be reset, save slots are hard to tell apart, and collectibles carry over between rooms, so missing one can mean replaying. Most players finish in four to eight hours. Recommended for patient puzzle fans, especially on sale; skip it if fiddly mouse controls and hunting for tiny keys wear you down.
Pros
- Four mansion rooms packed with varied logic and code puzzles
- Tiered hints help without handing over the answer
- Moody Victorian setting with a strong soundtrack
Cons
- Key items are easy to miss, leading to pixel hunting
- Click-to-interact and camera drag often get confused
- Some puzzles cannot be reset and saves are poorly labelled
