Heir of the Dog is a British comedy point and click adventure set in Victorian London. Dim-witted Cummerbund Bandersnatch drinks his uncle's experimental formula and finds his life changed in a very doggy way, which leads him into a plot involving a secret society and the royal family. It is fully voiced, with detailed pixel art, and grew out of the 2020 game jam project Hair of the Dog. It suits solo players who love classic comedy adventures.
With 12 Steam reviews, 11 positive, the evidence is limited but enthusiastic. Players praise the animated scenes full of easter eggs, the saucy seaside-postcard humour, well-designed puzzles without moon logic, and a fun twist on puzzle solving. One compares it to Lucy Dreaming; another took more than 15 hours to finish.
The one negative review hit a quiz at the dog pound that tests knowledge rather than lateral thinking. Another player notes that characters rarely stop talking. For fans of witty, British point and click adventures it looks like a strong pick.
Pros
- Victorian London full of little animations and easter eggs
- Fully voiced British comedy with saucy humour
- Puzzles players call fair, with no moon logic
Cons
- Only 12 reviews so far
- A quiz at the dog pound blocks progress for some
- Very talkative characters
About
Discover the darker side of Victorian London in this British point & click comedy adventure.
After a mysterious explosion over Victorian London, Cummerbund Bandersnatch (a likeable, if dim-witted twit) visits his uncle's laboratory and discovers an experimental new formula guaranteeing a "good time" for whoever drinks it. Seduced by the promises in his uncle's journal, Cummerbund decides that it is probably safe to drink and discovers his life will never be the same again.
What may seem like a curse at first, leads Bandersnatch on a thrilling, love-torn adventure through the back alleys of Old London Town as he uncovers a sinister plot involving a secret society, the royal family, copious amounts of dog hair and his uncle at the very centre.
