Our verdict

7/10

  • Difficulty: Medium
  • Players: 1
  • Playtime: 1–2 h

I am Bjorn: Escape Room is a small first-person escape game and the debut of solo developer Bernard van Wyk. You enter the mind of Bjorn and search his hand-painted childhood bedroom for clues, with a one-hour clock running, to help him confront old struggles with sight, sound and memory. It suits solo players who want a cheap, short single-room puzzle with a personal story behind it.

Only seven players have reviewed it, six of them positively. They describe moderately difficult puzzles that ask you to pick up and inspect almost everything and to listen closely to Bjorn's thoughts about each object, and a couple mention a conclusion with more meaning than they expected. Most finished in about an hour.

The main complaint is handling: one player gave up after repeatedly dropping items that need precise positioning, and disliked the function-key controls. The size is the other limit, with one room and little replay. At its very low price it is a fair pick for a single evening, best bought on sale if you mind paying for an hour of play.

Pros

  • Hand-painted childhood bedroom packed with objects to inspect
  • Bjorn's spoken thoughts double as clues and story
  • Very low price for a one-sitting escape room

Cons

  • Fiddly item positioning frustrated at least one player
  • One room, about an hour long, little replay
  • Only a handful of reviews to judge by
