Legion Was Here is a dark-comedy spy deduction game. You play Legion, an agent who can rebuild his face: for each mission from an odd client you study evidence about a target, sculpt a matching face from the clues, then infiltrate and survive an interrogation where people quiz you on what the real person should know. It suits solo players who like Papers Please-style rule checking and offbeat humour.
Steam reviews are very positive (228 of 240). Players call it a reverse Papers Please and love the core idea, which one compares to studying for an exam and then sitting the test. The ridiculous faces built from random clues, the soundtrack and the weird tone get frequent praise, and reviewers find it challenging in a delightful, not punishing way.
The common complaint is length: several call it painfully short and want more levels. Others mention clunky English dialogue and interrogations that expect you to remember more than you wrote down. Most finish in three to six hours. For deduction fans looking for something genuinely new, it is worth buying.
Pros
- Sculpt a disguise face from evidence, then bluff an interrogation
- Study-then-test structure unlike other deduction games
- Absurd spy humour and a strong soundtrack
Cons
- Short, with players wanting more missions
- Interrogations can test details you did not note
- Some clunky English dialogue
About
Legion Was Here is a dark-comedy spy deduction game where you study evidence, change your face, and steal identities to complete bizarre missions for all kinds of unusual clients — without getting caught.
You are Legion, a secret agent who can modify his appearance at will.
Agencies from all around the world call on your chameleon skills to carry out dangerous missions.
To approach your targets, you must succeed in passing yourself off as one of their loved ones: become a husband, a brother, a son…
The possibilities are endless.
But be careful: the slightest misstep can mean… Death.
● Change your look
Use the operating room to customize Legion's appearance.
Age, hairstyle, nose, eye color… Everything can be changed.
Find the right look for your mission, among more than 900 million combinations!
● Investigate
A file detailing your new identity will be provided to you for each mission. By cross-referencing its documents, you will have to find the appropriate appearance.
Be thorough, as each document is important… Yes, even this chocolate bar wrapper.
● Go on your mission
If you have the correct look, you will be able to approach your target.
But be careful, the mission doesn't end there: you will also have to act in accordance with your new identity to gain his trust.
This phase uses visual novel mechanics, with multiple choice questions that will test your acting skills….
The file you have studied will help you in your task... As well as the notes you have taken care to write on your left hand!
☞ Legion Was Here is also
3-4 hours of play
A wide variety of missions
Apart from the usual spy agencies (FBI, MI6...), you will sometimes have to deal with more unusual clients - ghosts from the past or amusement park mascots, everyone can hire Legion!
The perfect agent
You will always be able to redo missions to improve your score.
As long as you don't reach 100%, you weren't totally credible...
But stay vigilant, as the missions won't unfold the same way every time!
