Our verdict

7/10

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Players: 1
  • Playtime: <1 h

OK Bob is a tiny VR-only escape room from Lumen Labs. You are locked in a cramped custodial closet and have to find notes, hidden objects and codes to get out. There is no teleporting or stick movement: the whole game fits in a small room-scale play space, which makes it a neat first VR escape room or a quick demo for friends who do not want to shoot things.

Nearly all of its 21 reviews are positive. Players like how well the physical interactions work, from picking up sticky notes to a rickety little elevator that opens up new spots without breaking the one-room setup. Several call the puzzles fair and logical, with a light sense of humour alongside a hint of menace. One reviewer warns that the keys must be used in a specific order.

The catch is length. Most players finish in 10 to 30 minutes, and the few negative reviews are about paying around four dollars for that. The store lists Vive only; reviewers report it running on Rift with Touch, though one Rift S owner could not turn keys. Recommended for VR owners who want a polished short room, ideally on sale.

Pros

  • Single closet room built for room-scale VR, no teleporting needed
  • Clean object physics and logical puzzles
  • Tiny elevator cleverly opens up new parts of the room

Cons

  • Over in 10 to 30 minutes
  • Officially Vive only; some Rift S users report broken controls

Our Review

If you're looking for a sweet and short introduction to escape rooms in virtual reality, OK Bob is definitely a great option. It's not too complicated and makes great use of VR controls, yet still compelling enough to be very entertaining.
