Old Skies is a time-travel point-and-click adventure from Wadjet Eye Games. You play Fia Quinn, an agent who escorts paying clients on seven trips into New York's past, from Gilded Age gangs and Prohibition speakeasies to the day before 9/11. It is fully voiced, drawn in high-resolution pixel art and lets you die and rewind. It suits solo players who come for story and characters first.
Players rate it Very Positive, with about 93 percent of over 900 reviews in favour. Reviewers single out the writing, the voice cast and how emotional the client stories get; several say it made them cry. The puzzles get a cooler reception: many are dialogue-based, the inventory puzzles are light, and players describe them as fairly easy.
The recurring complaints are about puzzle feel. Several reviewers mention backtracking, talking to the same people repeatedly, and solutions that come from trial and error or deliberately dying. One found the story strictly linear despite the time-travel theme. Buy it for the narrative, which reviewers rate among the studio's best; skip it if you want hard, inventive puzzles.
Pros
- Seven trips through New York history, each with its own client story
- Full voice acting and detailed pixel art, praised by nearly every reviewer
- Dying is part of the puzzles, and time travel lets you retry instantly
Cons
- Puzzles lean on dialogue and repetition rather than clever logic
- Some solutions need trial and error or deliberate deaths
- Linear story with no choices that change the outcome
About
Time Travel is real and history is up for grabs! In this point-and-click, you play Fia Quinn, a time agent for the ChronoZen agency. Your job is to keep close watch on seven travelers who have the desire (and the bank accounts) to sightsee in the past. Some are simply curious. Others have unfinished business to resolve. And they’ve all put down a lot of money for the trip, so it’s vital that you keep them happy while ensuring they follow the rules. But what could go wrong? It's only time travel, after all.
Features:
- Seven eras of history to visit! From the speakeasies of Prohibition to the gangs of the Gilded Age to the morning of September 11th.
- High resolution 1920 x 1080 graphics! That's 3x higher than Unavowed.
- Lots of puzzles that require temporal thinking to solve.
- Death! You CAN die in this adventure game, but time travel means you can try again. And again. And again.
- Musical score by Thomas Regin (composer for Unavowed and the Blackwell series)
- Full voice acting! Our largest cast yet.
