Oneiros is a first-person surreal puzzle adventure and the debut of one-man studio Coal Valley Games. Liam wakes up late to find his bedroom door locked, his laptop hacked and his phone broken, and the familiar room slowly turns dreamlike. The game mixes escape room searching with classic adventure item use, some crafting and building, and a laptop with two playable mini-games. It suits solo players who like a strange, story-driven single location.
Players rate it Very Positive, with 119 of 148 reviews in favour. Written feedback in our sample is thin, so this verdict leans on the ratio and tags. Tag votes stress surreal, psychedelic and narration alongside escape room and hidden object, pointing to a game remembered as much for its visions and voiced characters as for its puzzles. A comedy tag suggests it does not take itself too seriously.
The one detailed comment we have is telling: the player enjoyed it but found the puzzles not always intuitive and suggests a guide may be needed. With physics-based objects and hundreds of interactive items, expect some trial and error. At its low price it is a reasonable pick for fans of odd, dreamlike escape rooms who do not mind checking a walkthrough now and then.
Pros
- Ordinary bedroom that warps into psychedelic visions
- Mix of escape room searching, crafting and a playable laptop
- Fully voiced characters at a low price
Cons
- Some puzzle solutions are not intuitive; a guide may help
- Single-player only
- Very little written player feedback to go on
About
Liam wakes up late just like any other day, but something just feels different. Doors to his room are locked, laptop's hacked, phone's broken and something just doesn't feel right. The place definitely looks like his room, but at the same time it just doesn't feel like it is, anymore. He just had a weirdest dream ever, feels like his head is about to explode and he doesn't remember what he did yesterday. Find out what's going on and help Liam escape.
Oneiros is a first-person, surreal puzzle adventure game that combines escape-room, classic adventure and crafting/building mechanics into a single narrative-based, surreal experience filled with psychedelic visions.
