PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid's Curse is the second horror mystery visual novel in Square Enix's series, set in Ise-Shima, a coastal region of Japan known for its mermaid legends. A new cast investigates the curse behind those legends, moving between story routes, looking around scenes for clues and taking part in dives into the sea. It suits solo players who enjoyed The Seven Mysteries of Honjo.
Steam reviews are very positive (about 95% of 490). Many players say it improves on the first game, with a smaller and more purposeful cast and a better-delivered mystery that turns a seaside legend into a story about people. Several could not put it down, and one jokingly praises the dive fishing as the real game.
Some fans of the first game came away disappointed: they found it less compelling and its puzzles weak until the true ending. Expect about 13 to 18 hours. If you liked Honjo, buy it; if you are new, play the first game first for the fuller experience.
