Play With Me: Escape Room is a first-person point-and-click horror puzzler loosely modelled on the Saw films. You play journalist Robert Hawk, trapped by a serial killer called Illusion after a car crash, and work through a maze of traps. The pitch leans on gimmicks that break the fourth wall: moving closer to the screen to read codes, blowing into the microphone to put out candles, and moral choices that lead to many endings.
Steam reception is Mixed, with 86 of 154 reviews positive. The one written review in our sample enjoyed its linear structure and compares it to older hidden-object games, while admitting some parts are confusing. Player tags point to a dark, psychological horror tone with plenty of hidden-object searching.
The near-even review split suggests the gimmicks and puzzle logic do not land for everyone, and written feedback is thin. Expect around three to four hours for a run. At its very low price it is an easy gamble for fans of grim hidden-object horror; players wanting clean, fair escape-room puzzles should aim higher.
Pros
- Fourth-wall puzzles use your microphone and screen distance
- Moral choices branch into many different endings
- Saw-inspired trap setting suits dark horror fans
Cons
- Mixed reception, with nearly half of reviews negative
- Some sections are confusing about what to do next
