Roots in the Sky is the second Hand of Glory game, a classic point-and-click detective adventure in the mould of Broken Sword and Gabriel Knight. Former Miami detective Lars Bundy, hiding in Italy, gets pulled into a murder case and a supernatural conspiracy that takes him to Rome, Jordan, India and Japan. You switch between Lars and his returning partner Alice. It suits solo players who miss 90s-style adventures; you can start here without the first game.
It released in August 2026 and has only 41 Steam reviews so far, all positive. Those players praise the hand-drawn locations, the voice acting, the humour and the big step up from the first game. They call the inventory puzzles challenging but mostly fair, with map travel between large areas. One reviewer did get stuck on a few puzzles with odd solutions.
It is long for the genre: one player put it at about 12 hours if you listen to all dialogue, and most reported playtimes are higher. The early reception is very strong but small, so expect the score to move a little. For point-and-click fans it looks worth the full price.
Pros
- Globe-trotting case across Rome, Jordan, India and Japan
- Hand-drawn HD locations and full English voice acting
- Switch between Lars and Alice; no need to play the first game
Cons
- A few puzzles have the odd illogical solution
- Only 41 reviews so far, so early reception is a small sample
- Slow, dialogue-heavy pacing will not suit players who want action
About
Five years.
Five years on the run, spent hiding from surveillance cameras, police checks ... and friends.
In an attempt to elude the cult that's been chasing him, former Miami detective Lazarus “Lars” Bundy is in Italy working incognito for a security agency when his client is murdered in cold blood by a sharpshooter. As the blood stain slowly spreads on the victim's clothes, Lars realizes there is only one way to keep his past from catching up with him: solve the case before the police and bring the perpetrator to justice as quickly and silently as possible.
A senseless murder, conflicting clues and an indistinct lead will thrust the former detective on another thrilling journey around the world, from majestic Rome to the Land of the Rising Sun by way of Jordan and India. With help from an old ally he thought he’d left behind for good, Lars finds himself swept up in a case far more complex and dangerous than he ever could have imagined, filled with international mystery and mysticism. And all the while, a much more personal danger lurks close at hand, one that Lars is determined to suppress and keep hidden from the world.
