CaseCracker2 is a text-based detective game played through a police database. Officer Jia has vanished, leaving a message pointing you to the CaseCracker 2.0 system, and you read reports, retrieve footage, request warrants and crack codes to break suspects' alibis. You type your own answers rather than picking from a list, and the case files share one universe, so clues in one report can unlock another. It suits deduction fans who like reading closely and taking notes.
Steam rates it Positive from 29 reviews, with 25 recommending it, but only one review here goes into detail. That long-time player recommends it to anyone who enjoyed the first game, likes that asking for a hint no longer costs points once every key clue is found, and singles out the fifth case.
The same reviewer lists rough edges: no subtitles for audio clues, a notepad that does not adjust its lines, colour-coded clues, a tiny music pool that repeats, and occasional pronoun errors from translation. Evidence is thin, so treat this as a cautious recommendation for fans of the first CaseCracker or Golden Idol-style typed deduction.
Pros
- Typed answers instead of multiple choice keep deduction honest
- Linked case files where one report unlocks another
- Hints no longer cost points once every key clue is found
Cons
- No subtitles for audio clues
- Clunky notepad and a small, repetitive music pool
- Very few reviews, and occasional translation errors
