Cube Escape Collection bundles Rusty Lake's first series of point-and-click escape games, rescued from the Flash era: nine short chapters from Seasons to The Cave. You follow homicide detective Dale Vandermeer into a strange case that draws heavily on Twin Peaks, with a crow, an owl and a lot of unsettling symbolism. The content matches the original browser games, with added achievements, translations and a hint system. It suits solo puzzle fans and anyone curious about the Rusty Lake universe.
Reception is outstanding, with about 98% of over 2,000 reviews positive. Players praise the creepy, surreal atmosphere, the odd humour, the soundtrack and the lore, which grows richer chapter by chapter. Several say the puzzles get more thoughtful as the series goes on, and a few jump scares landed.
The common complaint is obscure logic: some players say it is sometimes hard to tell what to do next, and one leaned on a walkthrough throughout. The final part of The Cave frustrated at least one fan. Expect six to eight hours across the chapters. At its low price it is an easy recommendation and the natural starting point for the series.
