Escape the Backrooms is a co-op horror exploration game for one to four players, built on the internet creepypasta about endless, yellowed office spaces. You move through more than 30 levels, each with its own exit to find and its own hostile entity to avoid, and the whole team has to reach the exit alive. It is best for a group of friends on voice chat; proximity voice means the monsters can hear you too.
With tens of thousands of reviews, the reception is very positive overall. Fans praise the liminal-space look, the sheer number of levels and secrets, and the chaos of losing teammates who wander off. Puzzles are mostly about finding a way through rather than deep logic, and several players say solo play is harder and duller than group play.
Recent reviews are noticeably rougher. Long-time players say updates broke things, and others report entities attacking through walls, soft-locks, a final level that would not finish, and repetitive reused assets in the back half.
