The Escaper is a budget first-person escape room game with four themed rooms, built around hidden clues and physics-based puzzles. You can play each room against a timer, like a real escape room, or switch the clock off and explore at your own pace. It suits solo players who want a cheap, compact puzzle evening.
Around 93% of its 590 Steam reviews are positive, a strong result for a small game. Players describe it as short but decently challenging, with clues tucked into the scenery and objects you can pick up and move around. Steam tags lean towards hidden object, point-and-click and physics play rather than story.
The main limit is size: players report finishing in an hour or two, and once the solutions are known there is little reason to replay. There is no co-op and little narrative. At under four dollars it is fair value; buy it if you want a tidy set of rooms for one evening, skip it if you want a long campaign.
Pros
- Four themed rooms with clues hidden in the scenery
- Optional timer mode mimics a real escape room session
- Physics-based object puzzles at a very low price
Cons
- Finished in an hour or two with little replay value
- Thin story and no co-op
