Duck Detective: The Secret Salami is a short, cosy deduction game starring a down-on-his-luck duck investigator caught up in a sausage-related conspiracy. You inspect suspects and scenes, collect keywords, then slot them into fill-in-the-blank deductions to solve each part of the case, an approach the store page openly borrows from Return of the Obra Dinn. It suits solo players who want a light mystery they can finish in one evening.
Players love the humour, the paper-cutout art and above all the full voice acting, which several call far better than expected for a game this size. The deductions are described as neither too easy nor too hard, and the silly story takes a twist that reviewers enjoyed. A few got stuck partway, and one particular safe gets grumbled about.
The only common complaint is length. Most finish in about two to three hours, and some felt that was thin for the full price, even among people who loved it. With Overwhelmingly Positive reviews, it is an easy recommendation for mystery fans and a nice entry point to deduction games; wait for a sale if you measure value in hours.
Pros
- Keyword-based fill-in-the-blank deductions feel clever but approachable
- Fully voice-acted cast adds a lot of charm and comedy
- Silly sausage conspiracy hides a satisfying twist
Cons
- Over in two to three hours, thin for the full price
- Little reason to replay once the case is solved
