Escape from Kyoto House is a classic single-room escape game from Taichi Games, set inside a traditional Japanese house. You can play alone or in online co-op with up to three friends, picking from a roster of more than 20 characters. The developer pitches it as a one-time experience, with an average run of about 50 minutes and fast teams done in 30.

Reception is strong: roughly 119 of 127 Steam reviews are positive, and players tag it mainly as a co-op escape room with a light mystery and horror flavour. The puzzles are riddles and hidden secrets spread around the room, and a later Horror Mode remixes them with tougher solutions for owners who want a second run.

The written feedback that exists flags two practical limits. There is no save feature, so a run has to be finished in one sitting, and the room is full of objects you can pick up that serve no purpose, which some find confusing when combined with fiddly mouse rotation for inspecting items. Best value as a quick co-op evening with friends; solo players after a long puzzle chain should wait for a sale.

Pros

  • Online co-op for up to four players in a Japanese-themed room
  • Free Horror Mode remixes the puzzles for a harder second run
  • Short enough to finish in one co-op evening

Cons

  • No save feature, so each run must be finished in one sitting
  • Decoy objects and fiddly item rotation slow down inspection
  • Around an hour of content for the full price
