The Room Three is the third entry in Fireproof's puzzle box series. Lured to a remote island, you work through the trials of a figure called the Craftsman inside an odd, Escher-like mansion, using the eyepiece lens to spot hidden mechanisms and shrink into intricate devices. It suits solo players who enjoyed the first two games and want a bigger, more connected sequel.
About 95% of its 6,347 Steam reviews are positive. Fans call it the most ambitious and longest game in the series, with satisfying contraptions, strong visuals and four endings that reward extra exploration. Most players report six to ten hours, with optional bonus puzzles that are tougher but fair.
The larger interconnected areas are also the main source of complaints. Several players found the backtracking between rooms tiring, missed tiny buttons and levers, and felt the portal-hopping made puzzles repetitive. A few also mention slow transitions and fiddly drag-and-drop. Play the first two games first; if you liked them, it is cheap and well worth buying.
Pros
- Island mansion links rooms into one connected puzzle space
- Four endings reward extra exploration and bonus puzzles
- Longest and most ambitious entry in The Room series
Cons
- Backtracking between areas drags for many players
- Tiny hidden buttons and levers are easy to miss
- Slow transitions with no way to speed them up
