Tales of Escape is a free multiplayer escape room hub for up to six players, playable on desktop or in VR. The base game includes one story room, an abandoned 1960s gold mine where you have to restart an old elevator before the air runs out; further rooms are sold as DLC. It suits groups who want to try a co-op escape room at no cost.
Reception is mixed: about 59% of its 977 Steam reviews are positive. Players who enjoyed it call it an okay group activity, but several say the puzzles mostly come down to finding numbers and four-digit codes for safes. Others mention dark rooms with no brightness option and bugs. Most reviewers stopped playing within an hour.
The biggest complaint is the business model. The free room takes some players only 10 to 15 minutes, every other story is paid DLC, and the lobby is described as full of ads.
