Tales of Escape - Illusion is a paid add-on room for the free Tales of Escape co-op escape game. You are a drugged test subject trapped in your own dream with two hours to find the antidote, and doors keep throwing you into new settings, from a prison cell to a spaceship to an attic. It plays solo or online with friends, and suits groups who already enjoyed the free base room.
About 75% of its 32 Steam reviews are positive. Fans praise the atmosphere and the variety of scenery, and some found it harder and better than the free episode. One solo player escaped in about an hour and a half with a few hints.
The most common complaint is that most puzzles end in yet another four-digit code, with fewer item-combination puzzles than other rooms. Players also mention constant background screams and a loud shuttle alarm, a co-op sync bug that left needed items missing, and missing a small item leading to long dead ends. At three dollars it is fine for a co-op group that likes number codes; solo players and fans of varied puzzles can skip it.
Pros
- Dream premise moves you from a prison to a spaceship to an attic
- Online co-op makes it a cheap group night
- Harder than the free base room
Cons
- Too many puzzles end in another four-digit code
- Constant screams and alarms grate during play
- Co-op sync bugs can leave key items missing
