Tales of Escape - Estate Escape is a paid DLC scenario for OnSkull Games' Tales of Escape, in its desktop rather than VR form. You play a servant trapped by abusive employers, and with the household away at the annual festival you must break out of your room and gather enough gold to get home. It plays solo or with friends in online co-op and suits existing Tales of Escape players looking for another room.
Reception is split, with 10 of 23 reviews positive. Fans praise the large, good-looking house, call the puzzles challenging but logical, and enjoyed it with a partner. Several defenders say the developer improved it after launch. Completion times vary widely, from 13 minutes to about two hours.
The critics are specific. Multiple players describe puzzles that rely on blind guessing, notably a domino puzzle and a safe whose name-based answer has no clear clue, with the hint button offering little help. Others mention bugs such as a crowbar falling through the floor in the first room, freezes and long loads, plus little story. It is cheap, but even fans rate it below OnSkull's other rooms. Play the free base levels first and only add this one if you are already hooked.
Pros
- Large, detailed estate to search for gold
- Online co-op with friends
- Low price for an extra room
Cons
- Domino and safe puzzles need guesswork; hints don't help
- Bug reports, including a crowbar falling through the floor
- Short and light on story; DLC needs the base game
