CAPTURED is a single-player analog horror game built around anomaly spotting. You are stuck in a looping, procedurally generated hallway of a late-'90s family home, and you escape by photographing 13 changes in the rooms and labelling each one by type. Get one wrong or miss it, and your camera memory is wiped. It suits fans of the anomaly-hunt genre who want something closer to an escape challenge than a walking sim.
Players rate it very highly, with about 96% of 358 reviews positive. Reviewers single out the grainy '90s look, the voice acting and the creatures that stalk the dark loops, which you have to dodge with your flashlight and doors. One player who struggles with spot-the-difference games found the easier mode forgiving, while others went back for the harder settings and full achievements.
It is scary and stressful, with frequent jump scares, so it is not for anyone who wants a calm puzzle game. Story is thin; the appeal is the memory challenge and the dread. At this price it is easy to recommend to horror fans, and several reviewers moved straight on to the sequel.
Pros
- Camera-based anomaly spotting with a clear 13-capture goal
- Convincing late-'90s home look and strong voice acting
- Difficulty modes let newcomers and veterans both enjoy it
Cons
- Heavy on jump scares and stress, not for puzzle-only players
- Little story beyond the looping-hallway setup
About
CAPTURED is an analog horror game where you capture anomalies on camera to escape what seems to be an endless hallway in your own home. Investigate mysterious phenomena, survive frightening entities, and reach the end of the hallway!
Explore a procedural generated endless hallway filled with unusual phenomena and ever-changing rooms. Caught in a never-ending loop, leaving the house only leads you right back into the same hallway. Plunged in complete darkness, room after room, your once-familiar home feels increasingly alien.
Break the loop by exercising your memory skills. Use your camera to zoom in on suspicious changes and select their anomaly type. Missing or incorrectly identifying any unusual phenomena within a loop will wipe your camera's memory. Correctly capture 13 anomalies to escape.
Watch out for unwanted company. While silence may be a good tactic, staying too long within a loop could give away your location. Use your flashlight, camera, and the doors strategically to survive each entity's unique mechanics.
Using a custom movement experience, step into a nostalgic late '90s aesthetic with realistic graphics, minimal UI, and a chilling atmosphere.
