Meridian 157: Chapter 1 is the first paid episode of NovaSoft's point-and-click mystery series, following the free prologue. You play David Zander, a forensic meteorologist chasing a weather anomaly off the Alaskan coast, who ends up trapped in an abandoned facility on a sub-Arctic island. It is a single-player game for fans of classic first-person point-and-click puzzlers who want an episode they can finish in a few evenings.
About 163 of 179 Steam reviews are positive. Players describe it as calm, slow-paced puzzle exploration with a creepy undertone, and SteamSpy votes back that up with Point & Click, Hidden Object and Investigation near the top and Horror much lower. The puzzles mix item collection with code and logic riddles, and a hint system covers the hardest ones. A colour-blind mode helps with colour-based puzzles.
The main limit is that it is one chapter of a longer story, so the plot will not wrap up here. Written feedback is sparse, but what exists suggests buying the series together on sale. Play the free prologue first; if you like it, this chapter is a cheap and easy recommendation. Players after real scares or action should skip it.
Pros
- Abandoned sub-Arctic facility sets a quiet, creepy mood
- Logic hint system for the toughest riddles
- Colour-blind mode for colour-based puzzles
Cons
- One chapter of a series, so the story stays unresolved
- Slow pace may feel too mellow for thriller fans
- Best value only when the whole series is bought on sale
